Operation Zack is the fifth episode of season three of Saved by the Bell.

Summary[edit | edit source]

Zack sprains his knee before the big basketball game, and while in hospital learns that Lisa is a part-time candy-striper. However, he also learns that he will need surgery to repair his knee and worries that it may go wrong. Matters are further complicated when Zach's parents refuse to allow the surgery to be performed by an African-American doctor (Lisa's Mom). The gang are forced to confront generational differences in racial opinions and somehow throw a fundraiser to save the basketball team from a lawsuit by Screech's scheming lawyer parents.

Controversy[edit | edit source]

Described as the "opening salvo in the fight against socialized health care," this episode takes several shots at the British and Canadian healthcare system and features six animated interludes against the federal government funded by Richard Mellon Scaife.

Quotes[edit | edit source]

Dr. Turtle: Don't you see Zack? We could adopt a more "European style" healthcare system but the model we would adopt would turn out to be more like Nazi Germany than you could ever imagine. And your friend Screech here would be first in line for euthanasia.

Screech: Me???
